Marc Lamont Hill

Marc Lamont Hill is a media studies and urban education professor at Temple University. In 2018 he was fired as a CNN correspondent after giving a speech at the UN that invoked language by Palestinian extremists. He referenced the “from the river to the sea” term, a PLO slogan from the 1960s which calls for the destruction of the Jewish State.

“We have an opportunity to not just offer solidarity in words but to commit to political action, grassroots action, local action, and international action that will give us what justice requires, and that is a free Palestine from the river to the sea.”
-Marc Lamont Hill at the UN

The highlighted phrase was a PLO slogan from 1964, calling for a Palestinian state from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea. It has evolved among those rejecting peace with Israel, including various anti- Israel activists. Hill apologized after, but this was not the first time he had made such egregious remarks.

In 2014, Hill wrote that the murder of three Israeli teens by Hamas operatives was not terrorism, but resistance. He later described the Iron Dome as an offensive weapon because it “takes away Hamas’s military leverage.”

Hill believes that Hamas’s actions are perfectly justified; therefore, any action Israel takes to prevent civilian deaths or to stop this terror organization is ultimately aggressive.

There is nothing abhorrent about a country protecting its civilians from terrorism.

By urging Palestinians and their supporters to forget about non- violent protests and to “resist in real robust ways,” Lamont Hill is advocating for the same type of terrorism he justified in the past, i.e. rocket fire, kidnappings, and murders of Israeli civilians.

Marc Lamont Hill has also defended his association with Louis Farrakhan, the antisemitic Nation of Islam leader who has compared Jews to termites.

Lamont Hill expressed outrage that he was criticized for embracing the infamous racist, although he felt compelled to somewhat distance himself from Farrakhan’s flagrant antisemitic pronouncements.

While Lamont Hill claims not to share Farrakhan’s radical antisemitic, pro-Hitler views, he does support Palestinian terrorism against Israeli Jews and denies Jews the right of self-determination in their historic homeland. It is apparently just a question of degree.
